2020 – The Year that Hacked the Pride Parades
With the COVID-19 crisis causing Pride Parades (CSD in Germany) all around the world to be cancelled, and countries such as Poland intensifying their institutionalised homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia, so far 2020 has been a bit of rough year for our community. Now more than ever, we need to bring the community together and keep up the Pride Month spirit and solidarity.
While Pride parades and Pride month celebrations are viewed by some as just another party, they still are above all demonstrations! Pride is a time of visibility for the community, a time to demand equality and justice, a time to celebrate us and our resilience in adversity, a time to educate and bring us forward.
Cancellations of Pride don’t only impact us individually – they also impact LGBTIQ+ structures and businesses such as community centres, bars, and clubs. But the absence of physical Pride celebrations doesn’t mean the end of pride for 2020! San Francisco, Dublin, and Oslo have already announced that they will host digital Prides, including full programs of concerts, talks and DJ sets.
As LGBT+ Talents, we have the opportunity to contribute and find solutions to stand together, raise our voices and fight for our rights online. The big question: how can we achieve that?
Create a blueprint – or rainbowprint! – for a digital Pride that could be used by cities around the world? Develop local support through chatbots? Start an awareness program in countries where LGBTIQ+ people are often subject to hate crimes? Give companies the opportunity to support and defend LGBT+ people where it is most needed?
Let’s work, let’s hack and let’s find out!

Note: You don’t have to be present non-stop during those two days. The initial general presentation on May 15th is mandatory to form the teams, and then lend some time for the teamwork itself.
WHAT IS A HACKATHON?
A hackathon is collaborative teamwork focused on solving a problem efficiently and dynamically.
With our Unicorns in Tech Online Hackathon, we want to address issues the LGBTIQ+ community faces and find innovative solutions.
OUR TOOLS
For this online hackathon, we will use our Unicorns in Tech platform and Zoom for the main information exchange, but also Slack, Google Suite and more.
