Professional Standards & Inclusion in Digital Technologies
By Daniel Aldridge
Bias in digital technology is widely talked about as a fundamental problem for the future nature of our society, having the potential to both be the powerhouse for diversity and inclusion if managed effectively, or to remove hard won advances in key areas of public life in one piece of poorly thought out and considered code.
One of the solutions to this problem is a refocus towards internationally recognised professional, inclusive and ethical standards. LGBT+ people must be visible and included in this, or risk being left behind and erased from digital public life.

How technology can help migrants in times of crisis
By Ana Alvarez
Back in 2015, Europe received an unprecedented number of asylum seekers since the second world war. The different ever since was that for the first time it all happened in front of our eyes, live, because most of the people fleeing out, back then, were carrying smart phones, which helped them to identify safe and open routes while countries were closing borders. All this challenged current systems to be changed. Lots of projects using different technologies emerged and forced the public servants to start seeing the crisis with a broad perception and technology at hand.

Product Ethics: Building Integrity in Your Ethical Stack
By James Lynden
Clarity in ethical frameworks and openness to discuss ethics, particularly in product and design teams, is a fundamental step towards more ethical tech products. In this presentation I provide a framework for assessing the integrity of your product. I introduce the idea of an ethical “stack”, where each layer of the stack needs to be interoperable, transparent and coherent for your product to have integrity. I conclude that a responsibility for ethics needs to be within the realm of product managers and product owners, who should treat integrity as they do desirability, feasibility and viability in product strategy decisions.

“Your Chatbot is too Sexy”: Stolen Female Capital in the
Era of AI
By Dr. Carmen Martinez
In the new hybrid reality that defines the modern world, populated by female chatbots, hyper-sexualized sex robots, and the entertaining female AR characters of the gaming industry, history and society replicate themselves once again. The patriarchal discourse has again appropriated female capital to adapt it to men’s desires and commodify it. Modern Computing, What Went Wrong & How Can We Try to Fix It
By Paulo Azevedo
The last few years have shown the double-sided nature of modern technologies. But the very same technologies enable surveillance and persecution that wouldn’t be in Orwell’s wildest dreams. In this talk, Paulo Azevedo will go over the building blocks of these technologies, the risks and benefits they bring.
Afterward, he’ll propose a way to subvert the pervasive method that social media uses to keep us hooked, and how to use it to benefit our users instead.

One fundamental tool to help better inform marketing managers’ decisions is attribution modelling: It consists in dividing the revenue generated by the customers across the marketing channels of our media mix depending on their impact.
During this session, we will cover the end-to-end 9-months project of building a data-driven attribution model to make our marketing organisation more efficient, including designing, deploying and testing the model.
